As an Editorial Intern at Motif Magazine, I generated copy for center spreads, "Opened/Closed," and event listings.  I also developed a "tour" article for Motif's

website, motifri.com.

               Motif Magazine

      Pawtucket, Rhode Island

Each month, the center spread of Motif displays a particular focus.  For all of the issues which I worked on, I was assigned a specific topic, i.e. events for singles and couples on Valentine's Day.  Typically, the focuses were relevant to the time frame in which the issue was published.  After conducting research regarding whichever topic/event my supervisor required, I was then responsible for developing written descriptions and/or reporting my findings in an organized and reader-friendly manner.

Focuses include:  Valentine's Day, Providence's French Film Festival, St. Patrick's Day, Community Supported Agriculture and 4/20.

Center Spreads

"Opened/Closed"

Every other issue, Motif publishes an "Opened/Closed" article detailing various local restaurants which have recently opened or closed.  These short pieces required me to specifically call on my research abilities.  While it is often rather simple to discover restaurants which have recently opened, establishment closings are a bit more difficult to come across.  Seeking information regarding "Opened/Closed" caused me to explore RI directly.  Though these pieces are certainly not stories, I believe that the act of searching for updated information on local eateries was excellent practice for investigative writing.
